The goal of services to clients with HIV infection and
AIDS is to keep them independent and functional as long as their condition
permits. When a client is diagnosed with AIDS, the Case Management
Team, together with Medical Staff, the client and his/her family prepares
a Treatment Plan that covers all the areas where help may be needed.
The team them mobilizes and coordinates all the public and private
medical, social and other support services in the community and sees that
the client receives the needed services.
Several years ago, it became evident that the children
related to our clients and those we encountered in our screening programs
lacked a good education. So, in 1997 the idea of starting a Charter
School was approved by the Board of Trustees. After developing
community support, after intensive preparation and after surmounting many
difficulties, our application was approved by the N.J. Department of
Education.
Following some aborted efforts at finding a site, the
Maria Varisco-Rogers Charter School opened in August, 1999, in a space
provided by FOCUS, another voluntary agency that serves the Hispanic
community.
Currently the school provides education to its capacity
of over 200 students of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The MVR Charter School is a separate entity, with its
own Board of Directors. For additional
