Adult Residential
|
| Locations: Newark & Secaucus, New Jersey.

A drug-free residential program provides a structured
environment for men and women 19 years of age and older who have history of
drug use. This treatment program stresses the "affirmation" process that
builds individual self-esteem and focuses on the client’s positive qualities
to reverse the behavioral patterns of a life-style on drugs.
The process consists of four phases over a period of nine
to twelve months. During the first two phases the resident lives and
participates in a large "family-like" facility where he or she must
contribute to its operation and upkeep. The resident relearns the meaning of
responsibility, personal hygiene, punctuality, concern for and interaction
with others.
The last two phases are transitional. While still living
in the facility, the resident begins to have more contact with the
community, usually in the form of training or employment. He or she begins
to share experiences with the newer members of the program. In the phase the
resident serves as a role model for entering clients.

Adolescent Residential
|
|
Young adolescent males, 14 to 18 years of age,
with a history of substance abuse are offered a special drug free
residential program at an age when they have the best potential to change
the course of their lives.
For a minimum of eight months these residents live and
participate in a large "family-like" environment where they contribute to
its operation and upkeep. They learn the meaning of responsibility, personal
hygiene, punctuality, honesty and concern for others. Academic education is
stressed so they can repair their self-esteem and improve their potential
for a successful life in the mainstream of society.

Outpatient
|
| Locations: Newark & Vineland, New Jersey

Outpatient treatment is available to individuals with
drug or alcohol problems who because of a job or other reasons cannot enter
the residential program, or who after an intensive initial interview are
deemed treatable on an outpatient basis.
Each outpatient client must come in a minimum of twice a
week. The treatment period is about 6 months depending on the client’s
individual needs. Weekly appointments are scheduled according to each
client’s personal needs. Clients must submit to urine monitoring. Services
provided to outpatients are similar to those provided in residential
settings, including counseling and group sessions.
The group sessions are divided into four phases:
motivational (overview of goals and objectives); alcohol abuse (causes and
consequences); drug abuse (causes and consequences); family
interrelationships, follow-up and referral.
Individuals in the outpatient program may be
self-referrals, referrals from other social services agencies, referrals
from the criminal justice system; referrals from DVR (Division of Vocational
Rehabilitation) and IDRC (Intoxicated Driver Resource Center). The
outpatient program may be a source of entry into the other programs offered
by CURA or vice-versa.
